Using The iPad in Missions and Outreach

Some of the larger missions agencies are already finding ways to use the iPad in missions and outreach. Many apps are already developed for using the iPad in outreach and witnessing. Read more below and in the forum.

Wycliffe

Today about 200 million people do not have the Bible in their own language. Wycliffe’s vision is to see the Bible accessible to all people in the language they understand best. To make this vision a reality, Wycliffe also focuses on community development, literacy development and church partnerships.

Have You Downloaded God Tools?

In the fall of 2009, Randall Pahl posed a question during one of the first meetings of Keynote’s New Media Labs. “Why hasn’t anyone designed a smart phone app for sharing the gospel?” S    mart phones like the iPhone and Android phones have touch screens with tons of readable content. What better platform for displaying content about knowing God?! he idea for God Tools as born. Many months went into gathering all of the Campus Crusade tools, entering content, working with an outside vendor for designing the app and much more

Nineteen ways I used the iPad while traveling in Africa

The iPad has been described as a tool primarily for consuming media. That may be too limiting. It’s useful for many other reasons.
While traveling in Africa, I discovered several uses that go beyond consumption. Some of the most useful apps are free. Some I bought on the app store. Because apps are being added daily, I might have chosen differently if options had been available when I made my trip.

3 challenges for outreach learned from the new iPhone release

During his Keynote address for the release of the new iPhone 4, Steve Jobs did something that has me thinking about outreach.  During the middle of his address he stopped the presentation to ask everyone to shut down their connection to WiFi.  There were so many people connected to WiFi at the conference that Jobs was not able demo the online features of iPhone 4. Think about it.  Those in attendance were not taking notes on a legal pad.  They were not even taking notes on a notebook computer.  Okay, they may have been doing that, but the reason the WiFi was crashing is because people were blogging, tweeting, and   posting status updates on their social networking sites. The moment he asked people to shut down their WiFi, he gave us a glimpse into the culture we are called to reach.  Three outreach challenges come to mind.
